Mom’s Meals Partners with Florida Department of Children and Families to Provide Critical Meal Support in Wake of Hurricane Milton

In response to the wreckage caused by Hurricane Milton, Mom’s Meals, a leading provider of home-delivered and medically tailored meals, donated 7,000 shelf-stable meals to support individuals impacted by the storm. The effort was coordinated with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Hope Florida program — an organization that enables community collaboration between the public and private sector — to address immediate food insecurity in vulnerable communities.

The donation followed a request from Erek Culbreath, Director of Mass Care for DCF and Florida State Emergency Response Team Manager. The request highlighted the urgent need for food assistance for those affected by the storm, many of whom faced significant power outages and other challenges.

“We were honored to provide support during such a critical time,” said Paula Hopper, Director of Government Affairs & Advocacy. “Our collaboration with the Florida Department of Children and Families reflects our commitment to addressing food insecurity and providing nourishing meals and essential care to those in need.”

The donated meals, including varieties such as pasta fagioli, Creole-style chicken, lentils and beef, chicken pasta parm, and cheese ravioli, were deployed by Hope Florida canvassers to the hardest-hit areas. These meals offered immediate nourishment to individuals recovering from the storm’s effects.

Erek Culbreath expressed gratitude on behalf of Florida’s State Emergency Response Team, saying:

“Thanks to the support of organizations like Mom’s Meals, Florida is able to be the best in the nation at responding to the needs of disaster survivors. Your generous donation has ensured that our most vulnerable communities receive the care and nourishment they need in times of crisis. We are truly grateful for your partnership.”

Mom’s Meals has a longstanding mission of improving lives through better nutrition at home. The organization works closely with partners both in its home state of Iowa and across the country to be there in times of need.

“Giving back during these challenging moments is an extension of our mission,” said Hopper. “We are ready to step in when our friends and neighbors — far and wide — need a little extra help. It is a privilege to be able to contribute.”
